What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Brookhill Baptist Church based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

The Holy bible

We believe in THE HOLY SCRIPTURE:  Accepting fully the writings of the Old and New Testaments as the very Word of God, verbally inspired in all parts and therefore wholly without error as given of God in the original languages, altogether sufficient in itself as our only infallible and authoritative rule of faith and of practice.  While we hold a high view of the KJV (a.k.a. Authorized Version) and believe in preservation, this church does NOT hold to the KJV-Only position, but teaches “sound doctrine,” and, thus, teaches a Biblically responsible view of all translation work. (II Tim. 3:16-17; II Pet 1:12; John 17:17)

God, the father

We believe in THE ONE TRUE GOD:  Who is an intelligent, sovereign, spiritual and personal being; perfect, infinite, and eternal in His being, holiness and love, wisdom and power; absolutely separate from and above the world as its Creator, yet everywhere present in the world as the Upholder of all things. He is revealed to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, three distinct persons but without division of nature, essence or being, and each having a distinct ministry in relation to His creation and people (Jer. 10:19; John 1:1-2; 17:3-5; l John 5:20; Col. 1:15-18).

God, the SON

We believe in THE LORD JESUS CHRIST:  Who is the second person of the triune God, the eternal Word and Only Begotten Son; that without any change in His Divine Person, He became man by miracle of the Virgin Birth, thus to continue forever as both true God and true Man, one Person with two natures; that as Man He was tempted in all points as we are, yet without sin; that as the Perfect Lamb of God He gave himself in death upon the cross, bearing there the sin of the World, and suffering its full penalty of divine wrath in our stead; He arose from the grave in a glorified body; that as our Great High Priest He ascended into Heaven, there to appear before the face of God as our Advocate and intercessor (lsa. 7:14; Matt. 1:20; John 10:30; John 1:1; Titus 2:13; Matt 28:6; Mark 16:6; Rom. 8:34).

God, the holy spirit

We believe in THE HOLY SPIRIT:  Who is the third person of the Trinity, and the divine Agent in nature, revelation and redemption; that He convicts the world concerning sin, righteousness and judgment; that He regenerates, indwells, baptizes, seals and anoints all who become children of God through Christ; that He further empowers, guides, teaches, sanctifies and fills believers who daily surrender to Him (John 14:16-17 & 26; 16:13-14; I Cor. 2:10-11, 12:11; Rom. 5:5; II Pet. 1:21).

Mankind

We believe ALL MEN ARE BY NATURE AND CHOICE SINFUL AND LOST:   Man was the direct creation of God, made in His image and likeness. God created one male, Adam, and one female, Eve, they were the first humans and were created without sinful natures. By personal disobedience to the revealed will of God, man became a sinful creature, the father of a fallen race which is universally sinful in both nature and practice, thus alienated from the life and family of God, under the righteous judgment and wrath of God, and has within himself no possible means of salvation (Gen. 1:26, 3:6; Rom. 5:12, 18-19; Eph. 2:8-9, 18).

Salvation

We believe in SALVATION BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH:  Salvation is the free gift of God, neither merited nor secured in part or in whole by any virtue or work of man, but received only by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, in whom all true believers have as a present possession the gift of eternal life, a perfect righteousness, sonship in the family of God, deliverance and security from all condemnation, every spiritual resource needed for life and godliness and the guarantee that they shall never perish; that this salvation affects the whole man; that apart from Christ there is no possible salvation. The only way that a person comes to God is through the Holy Spirit’s drawing them, but He draws ALL mankind to Himself because Christ was lifted up on the Cross. The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes. God is not willing that any should perish, but that all come to repentance (John 3:14-18; 12:32; Eph. 2:8-9; Rom. 5:8; 6:23; 10:9-10).

Good works

We believe in RIGHTEOUS LIVING AND GODLY WORKS:  This is not a means of salvation in any sense, but of its proper evidence and fruit. Therefore, as Christians, we should obey the Word of our Lord, seek the things which are above, walk as He walked, accept as our solemn responsibility the duty and privileges of bearing the Gospel to a lost world; remembering that a victorious and fruitful Christian life is possible only for those who, in gratitude for the infinite and undeserved mercies of God, have presented themselves wholly to Christ (Rom. 6:14-18; Heb. 13:16; James 4:17; l Cor. 6:14; I Pet. 3:11; Eph. 5:8).

biblical separation

We believe in BIBLICAL SEPARATION:  All saved persons should live in such a manner as not to bring reproach upon their Savior and Lord Jesus Christ; and, that separation from all religious apostasy, all worldly and sinful pleasures, practices, and associations is commanded of God.  Furthermore, we do not directly cooperate with religious organizations and churches that do not agree with our doctrine. (Rom. 12:1-2, 14:13; II Cor. 6:14-18:1;   II Tim. 3:1-5; I John 2:15-17; II John 9-11).

The Church

The Church, which had its birth in Acts 2, is meant to be the visible body of Christ on the earth and is made up of all "born again" believers in Jesus Christ. The local church is meant to be a close fellowship of saved and baptized believers of like faith and practice which gather regularly for worship, the study of the Word of God to equip all the believers for ministry. They are  sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Resurrection

Jesus Christ after His crucifixion and burial, rose bodily from the grave and ascended into Heaven. He is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead in 2 separate judgements and to usher in the fullness of God's kingdom on earth initially to reign for 1,000 years and then create a New Heaven and New Earth that is perfect and will last for eternity in peace.
